In 2006, I headed down from Boston to gut homes in St. Bernard Parish, a proud blue collar area just east of New Orleans proper destroyed by floods after Katrina. It took me a couple years to get back to help with rebuilding, but I drove across this October to work with the amazing St. Bernard Project’s efforts. We were assigned a house and I worked flooring, baseboarding, and doorjambs. They just finished home number 151. Over 2000 remain.
